EMBRC is the only European ESFRI infrastructure in the field of blue biotechnology, and involves the main research centres in Europe. The following map shows the location of these centres:
This map represents a snapshot of the EMBRC partnership, a structure that aims to welcome more centres in even more states. The partners are continually striving to involve new partners.
Since 2013, the CPMR has undertaken work to contribute to the link between the policies of the Regions and the European priorities regarding blue biotechnology. This work, together with a summary of the prospects for future action are presented in the maritime agenda of the CPMR.
Collaboration was established between the CPMR and the EMBRC which continues through the “EMBRC PP2” project which is supported by Horizon2020. In this context, the CPMR is working on the support given to the exploitation of marine biological resources by the Regions through their smart specialisation strategies. This project has led to the organisation of this workshop in Bilbao, hel on June 21st 2016.
What is the interest of this kind of collaboration for the Regions?
This kind of collaboration focus on the two-fold objective in the reinforcement of the link between the Regions and the EMBRC, whether they have a partner research centre or not:
- They are an excellent opportunity for the development of future European projects by enabling discussions with members of a central research structure in the field of marine biology in Europe as well as with the Regions that also work on blue biotechnologies;
- They aim to involve the Regions in the governance of the EMBRC structure. This opportunity applies to all Regions, including those whose State does not have an EMBRC centre at this stage.
All presentations of the “Regions’ Support for Blue Technologies Value Chains in Europe” workshop are available via this link.
